The Council of Indian Employers
For some time after their inception, both the EFI and the AIOE operated separately in securing representation on consultative bodies - but worked jointly by adopting a common approach to problems of industrial relations and labour legislation - an arrangement which was continued on an informal basis. Later, in 1956, both these Federations jointly set-up the Council of Indian Employers (CIE) to co-ordinate their activities at the national and international level, as a result today, CIE is an apex body of Employers' Federations, which has been recognised as such by the Government of India, Ministry of Labour. Since 1973, the Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE) has joined the Council as a Member.
